John "Jack"
Kelly, age 85 of Lake Stevens WA, passed away peacefully in his sleep on
December 13, 2004 at home, of natural causes.
Jack came to
this area in 1935, when he ran away from home and stowed aboard a train. When he
settled in this area he worked as a logger, bartender, grocery clerk and
eventually owned his own grocery delivery business. During WWII he was a ship
wright and from June 1944 through March 1946 he served in the Navy as a
Machinist's Mate and Corpsman. After his honorable discharge from the Navy, he
and his wife Maxine moved to Seward, Alaska, where Jack worked as a Power
Utility Lineman and ambulance driver and fireman. Jack loved to climb power
poles and in 1955 moved back to Snohomish County to work for the P.U.D. as a
lineman and dispatcher from which he retired in 1980. After retirement from the
P.U.D. he worked for the Snohomish Chalet until his demise.
Jack was a member of I.B.E.W.L.U. 1547, in Alaska and Local #77 in Seattle. In
the community he participated in the Knights of Columbus, Lions Club and Lake
Stevens Planning Commission.
Jack's real legacy will not only be his dedication to helping young people by
imparting healthy advice but his ability to always make people happy or smile,
even when they're down and he always offered bits of sage wisdom with a twist of
wit and a touch for all the Lads and Lassies of Irish Eloquence.
